Side Effects Of Being Overweight

Digestive problems are more common in heavy individuals than in those who maintain a healthy body weight. Obesity is the leading attributing cause of most digestive orders. The biggest digestion problems for those who are overweight tend to be
Acid reflux occurs when stomach juices splash into the esophagus causing a burning sensation in the chest and throat, commonly referred to as heartburn. Where the stomach meets the esophagus is a valve called a sphincter.

A properly functioning sphincter relaxes and opens to allow food down into the stomach, but then tightens up again to prevent acid from leaking back up (known as reflux or regurgitation). Surplus body fat around the stomach and diaphragm puts pressure on the sphincter causing it to weaken and allowing stomach juices to escape into the esophagus.

Thirty five percent of overweight people experience some degree of heartburn. The good news is that losing weight can bring immediate relief. A woman who is only 10-15 pounds overweight can reduce her risk of heartburn by a whopping 40% if she were to shed the extra pounds.

Overweight people also have a greater risk of developing what is called a hiatal hernia. This is when the upper part of the stomach squeezes through a small opening in the diaphragm and into the chest. Hiatal hernias are attributed to heartburn as the protrusion can interfere with the proper function of the sphincter.

Although extra body fat does not directly cause constipation, the typical lifestyle of overweight individuals is a big contributor. Generally, overweight or obese people have diets that are low in fiber and high in fat and sugar.

Fiber is an essential component to avoiding constipation.
Fiber is the edible parts of plant based foods that we eat that do not get absorbed by our bodies.
Fiber keeps our stools soft and bulky which aids significantly in relieving constipation.

A bulky stool passes through the colon much easier than its smaller, harder counterpart. This is because the larger stool pushes up against the colon walls telling the colon that it is there and forcing the colon into action. With smaller stools you have to strain excessively to help the colon do its job.

Additionally, overweight people tend to live a relatively sedentary lifestyle. Regular exercise can speed up digestion reducing the amount of time food spends in the body. The longer food resides in the intestinal tract, the more water is removed from it, leaving it hard and dry and difficult to pass.
Maintaining a healthy digestive system is an extremely important step toward good overall health. If the additional weight you carry is hindering your body's digestive process, you can see how very important it is that you remove those extra pounds.

If you have problem with obesity or you just have to lose few pounds the most important thing is your true and sincere desire to regulate your body weight
